
initially i planned on just pulling apart the hankies i got from stitches west this past weekend and knit off the drafted silk without spinning it first, since i do not own a spinning wheel. but upon doing some searches, i found instructions on knitty on spinning hankies using a drop spindle.
i also found this site about silkworms and shows the process of making a silk hankie. apparently each hankie is made from ONE cocoon! it's kinda gross, but totally amazing at the same time. here's an image from worm spit's site showing a cocoon being opened and the bug being prepped for removal.
